Rochester, MN - Last Friday, we put out a brief notice when an individual was arrested for possession of child sexual abuse material, and we have held further information until charges were filed. Those charges were filed this morning. We are now sharing additional information about Jim Vin's employment with Rochester Public Schools.
At this time, we have no information that suggests Jim Vin engaged in inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature towards any RPS students; however, given the seriousness of the charge, parents and educators may want to check in on students who attended these schools during the following years:
Washington Elementary: August 17, 2026, to September 18, 2026, as a special education Education Support Professional (ESP)
Dakota Middle School: September 2, 2025, to June 3, 2026, as an ESP tasked with supervising study halls
Willow Creek Middle School: from August 22, 2023, to May 31, 2024 and August 20, 2024 to February 25, 2025 as a special education ESP
School Aged Child Care: 2008
He also substituted in several schools as an ESP from 2007 to 2011.
2007: John Adams Middle School
2008: Century High School, Willow Creek Middle School, John Marshall High School, Pinewood Elementary School, Franklin Elementary School
2009: Jefferson Elementary School, Friedell Middle School, Franklin Elementary School, John Marshall High School, Century High School
2010: Burr Oak Preschool, Gage Elementary Schools
2011: Education Services Center, transportation department, Riverside Elementary School, Gage Elementary School, Gibbs Elementary School, Folwell Elementary School

We take this matter very seriously and share the concern that many parents have felt and expressed about this situation. We will continue to work with Law Enforcement on this matter and are also conducting our own internal investigation into the individual's previous employment with Rochester Public Schools.
