Interior of an RPT bus

For high schoolers who live close to a city bus stop, riding to school just got easier! Rochester Public Schools and Rochester Public Transit have come together to offer students and their parents FREE busing to their high school.

Rochester Public Schools has partnered with Rochester Public Transit to provide fare-free city bus rides to and from school for all high school students from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. This option supports students in independently accessing reliable transportation to and from school using existing city bus routes, while also welcoming family involvement.

Students can ride for free by showing their school ID when boarding. Family members riding with their student may also ride fare-free when accompanying them.

Families are encouraged to support students as they begin using this option. Whether a student prefers to ride independently or with a parent or caregiver during the transition, both options are supported to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.

To find the nearest Public Transit bus stop near you and to easily plan a trip, visit RPTRide.com or download the RPT Mobile Fare App. The app lets riders track RPT buses in real time, which is very handy for timely information when buses are affected by traffic and weather. Please note that Rochester Public Transit changes its routes a few times a year. Their next route changes will go into effect on April 26.

For those who currently use RPS Busing and want to switch to Rochester Public Transit, once you’ve found a Public Transit route that works for you, please contact Rochester Public Schools Transportation Department to be removed from your current bus route.
