Elton Hills Elementary Celebrates “Frosty Footsteps: Winter Walk Celebration”
What: Minnesota Winter Walk Day is February 4, 2026. Rochester Public Schools invites students, families, and community members to celebrate Frosty Footsteps: Winter Walk Celebration. Whether you are walking to school or simply enjoying your neighborhood, we encourage everyone to get outside and embrace the winter season together.
The Winter Walk Celebration highlights the importance of active routes to school and promotes physical activity that supports student health and well-being. The event also raises awareness about pedestrian and bicycle safety and reinforces the need for safe routes to school for all children, including those who walk and roll.
Who: We invite the broader community to support this effort by clearing sidewalks and curb ramps, staying alert for people walking and biking, slowing down in school zones, yielding to pedestrians and cyclists, and avoiding distractions while driving.
This event will take place during the school day so that all students—including those who typically ride the bus—can participate. At 1:30 p.m., Elton Hills students and staff will take a 15-minute (0.6-mile) neighborhood walk around the school, thanking neighbors for keeping sidewalks clear and helping create safe, accessible pathways for everyone. This walk is a way to strengthen community connections while reinforcing shared responsibility for safety.
