Pinewood Elementary Celebrates Walk to School Day
What: Pinewood Elementary School will participate in National Walk & Roll to School Day by celebrating the students who walk to school year-round and the crossing guards who keep them safe along the way. This year, Walk & Roll to School Day celebrates 30 years of participation in Minnesota. The goal of Safe Routes to School is straightforward: to create opportunities that encourage physical activity and promote safety in neighborhoods and near schools.
Who: Pinewood Elementary students, parents and caregivers, Rochester Public School Board members, Rochester Public Schools staff, Rochester Police Department, and community volunteers.
When: The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
Where: Pinewood Elementary students, parents and caregivers, and Rochester Public Schools staff will depart from Bear Creek Park, 1237 Marion Rd SE, Rochester, MN 55904, at 7:30 a.m., with the Rochester Police Department and community volunteers encouraging them along their route. The media is welcome to join walkers along the route on Marion Road or at the entrance to Pinewood at 7:50 a.m. Interviews can be conducted after the walk at Pinewood Elementary.
Neighboring homes are encouraged to keep their sidewalks clear, creating a safe route for pedestrians, which in turn results in a safer community overall.
This event is supported by Rochester Public Schools, the Rochester Fire Department, the City of Rochester, Olmsted County Statewide Health Improvement Partnership, and the Rochester Police Department.
