Walk to School Day
Walk and Roll back to school with Walk to School Day, October 1st, 2025!
Start the new school year with a healthy new habit! International Walk to School Day takes place each October to encourage kids to walk and roll to school.
Walk to School Day is not only fun but also an important opportunity to encourage physical activity and promote safety in neighborhoods and near schools too!

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
Walk and Roll around your community, November 14th, 2025!
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is back for its second year on November 14th! On this day, we celebrate Ruby’s brave first steps into history by taking a few steps of our own—walking to school together! Along the way, we’ll spark conversations about standing up for what’s right, showing kindness, and saying “no” to bullying.
The heart of the day is simple: inspiring kids to believe they can make a difference in their school and community.
Our very first RPS Ruby Bridges Walk kicked off at Riverside and Hoover Elementary in 2024!
Winter Walk to School Day
Winter Walk to School Day, February 2026
Bundling up and playing in the snow is a cherished activity for students, so we celebrate with our annual Winter Walk to School Day! Whether it’s walking to school for classes or exploring your neighborhood with family, we hope you will get out and enjoy this wonderful, wintry season! After all, this is Minnesota, the land of ice fishing, hockey, cross-country skiing, fat biking, and sledding – why wouldn’t we throw a Walk (and Bike) to School Day party in the middle of the winter?

Bike and Roll to School - Month
Bike at School , May 2026
We want to make your Bike to School event as fun and easy as possible! The nationally celebrated event encourages kids to bike to school and shows families just how wonderful it is to get to school by bike or foot. Join us by encouraging events at your school or simply trying it with your family.
Pump up your bike tires—Rochester Safe Routes to School’s Bike at School is back May 4–23!
May is National Bike Month, and we’re celebrating by highlighting active routes to school. Students are encouraged to try biking, scootering, skateboarding, or rollerblading for short trips—whether that’s getting to school or heading to after-school activities.
Active transportation helps students build independence, confidence, and daily physical activity into their routines. Families can support by practicing bike safety skills, riding together, and identifying safe routes in your neighborhood.
We’re hosting events across the district early-childhood through - 12th grade and would love support from caregivers, volunteers, and community members. Your presence helps create a fun, safe, and encouraging environment for students.
