Students will be screened to identify potential vision or hearing concerns. The screenings are not intended to replace professional examinations.

Students in first and third grades will have a vision and hearing screening. Students in fifth and seventh grade will have a vision screening only. Vision and hearing screenings will also be performed on elementary and middle school students new to Rochester Public Schools or by parent/caregiver/staff request.

If you wish your student to be excluded from either or both of these screenings, please notify your student’s health office at the beginning of every school year. 

Parents/Caregivers will be notified through a referral process if the student does not pass either screening.
