For some families, home schooling is the appropriate educational choice for their child. For specific questions and to view the requirements, please visit the Minnesota Department of Education website.
If you determine homeschooling is the best option for your student, please complete the Homeschool Report and submit it to Rochester Public Schools by October 1.
Please read through the requirements and directions carefully. If you have questions after you have reviewed the materials and resources, please contact the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at (507) 328-4300.
Early Childhood Screening is a free, comprehensive developmental screening for any child 3 years to 5 years living within the Rochester School District.
Did you know that the State of Minnesota requires all children to complete a developmental screening before entering public kindergarten programs?
The friendly staff at screening will check your child's:
- immunization status
- communication and language
- large and small muscle control
- emotional development
For more information or questions, please call (507) 328-4004 or email us.
At Rochester Public Schools, School Age Child Care or the SACC Program provides the highest quality enrichment opportunities in a nurturing and safe environment for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Program offerings include:
- School Year: Before school from 6:30 AM until the morning bell, and after school care until 6:00 PM.
- Summer Program and Non-School Enrichment Days: care from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
- *Inclement Weather Days: care from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
The School Age Child Care Program is available at Rochester public elementary schools where registration numbers will support an operating site.
*SACC on days when school is closed is at the discretion of the Rochester School District Administration and/or the Governor. If all District buildings are closed to provide safety for staff and families, care will NOT be available.
Schools that participate in School Nutrition Programs accept applications for free and reduced-price school meal benefits at any time. Approval is based on comparison of the household’s income to current U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) household income guidelines. Schools send an Application for Educational Benefits form to the households of all enrolled students at the beginning of each school year. A letter accompanies the form and explains school meal benefits and how to apply.
Skylert is a tool used to communicate and share messages with families, staff, and community members in the Rochester Public School District. Anyone can sign up for Skylert communication and you have the ability to control how you receive your communication.
Skyward is a student information tool we use to share information about testing, attendance, and grades with parents/guardians. Once enrolled at RPS, parents/guardians will automatically receive a Skyward account and information on how to access that account to the email address provided at the time of registration.
