Statement from Rochester Public Schools

Chief Administrative Officer John Carlson will be leaving Rochester Public Schools at the end of November to become Director of Finance at Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union.

John began his tenure with Rochester Public Schools in 2011 and has served in various roles within the Finance Department before being appointed Chief Administrative Officer in 2022. In this capacity, he has provided leadership for the departments of Facilities, Finance, Policy and Innovation, Student Nutrition Services, Technology, and Transportation, as well as for other strategic priorities outlined in the RPS Strategic Plan.

Superintendent Kent Pekel said, "The leadership that John Carlson has provided for our operations departments has been a key contributor to the progress we have made over the past several years. Accomplishments during his tenure include six flawless external audits in a row, development of a new budget model, redesign of our transportation routes to implement new school start times, and much more.”

"I am grateful for the experiences I have had and the relationships I have built over almost 15 years of work in Rochester Public Schools," said John Carlson. "I believe that the school district is on the right path, and so this is the right time for me to step back from the pace that my current job demands to focus on my family. I will remain a Rochester Public Schools parent and can't wait to see where our school system is headed in the years ahead."

The search for the next Chief Administrative Officer is now underway. The position provides leadership for the district's administrative and operational departments and plays a key role in advancing the priorities outlined in the RPS Strategic Plan.
