The District will build a new Longfellow school to the southeast of the current Longfellow school on land that is currently parking lot and soccer field. Once the new school is completed, students will move into the new building for the 2022-2023 school year. Design for the new school will begin in July.
Please watch for opportunities to provide feedback during the design process. Once students and staff have moved into the new Longfellow school, the old school will be removed and turned into City park.
The District is currently working with the City Parks and Recreation Department on a "land swap." This would mean that the District would build a new Longfellow Elementary School on parkland adjacent to the current Longfellow building. Once construction is complete, the students would begin attending school at the new building and the City would acquire the former Longfellow building. The District’s Letter of Intent for the Longfellow project will be discussed at the December 3, 2019 Rochester Parks and Recreation Department’s Board meeting.
