In the fall, Rochester Public Schools will be opening a new elementary school, Overland Elementary, at the end of August 2021. During the 2021-2022 school year, this building will be used by our current Harriet Bishop Elementary School students while the existing Bishop school is demolished and a new school is being built on the Bishop property. Then, in August 2022, Overland Elementary will open for the neighborhood students.
School attendance boundaries have not been identified for the 2022 school year. However, students living within the Overland Elementary School walking boundary of up-to 1.25 miles from the school can assume Overland Elementary will be their neighborhood school.
RPS has identified around 130 students that live within the walking boundary of Overland Elementary. As a neighbor of the new school, these families were invited to enroll in the new building beginning August 2021, instead of their currently assigned school. This is an option that some families have requested; this is a choice, not a requirement, for August 2021. RPS has sent out surveys to these families. If you express interest in changing schools, the District will follow-up with you on the next steps.
